Compare boiler and heating quotes with one enquiry
Fill in the form with your postcode and what the boiler, radiator or cylinder is doing, and it can go to as many as four independent heating engineers who handle combi boiler replacement, boiler hot water faults, leaking radiators, radiator valves, thermostatic radiator valves and immersion heaters.
There is no fee for the matching. How many engineers reply depends on the job and who is free, so you may hear from fewer than four. You decide whether to book anyone. An engineer may charge for a call-out or diagnosis, so ask before agreeing to a visit.
After you send the form
- Describe the job. Add your postcode, the boiler make if you know it and whether the problem is heating, hot water or both.
- Talk it through. Engineers may ask for photos of the boiler, valve or cylinder, or arrange a survey.
- Compare the quotes. Check the parts, labour, flushing, controls, guarantee and VAT on each one.
- Choose, or don’t. Any booking, written price and scope are settled between you and that business.
Guide UK heating prices
Each of the six main rows below is our budgeting guide for a typical job of that type. The extra rows are common smaller tasks within those services, not extra charges on top. They allow for ordinary parts and labour and are not fixed quotes. The radiator valve and TRV service ranges cover different job sizes, from a small visit to several valves; they are not prices per valve. Check VAT and any call-out fee with the engineer.
| Service or task | Guide range | What moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Combi Boiler Replacement | £2,000–£4,000 | Boiler model, flue, gas pipe, controls and whether a cylinder comes out |
| Boiler Hot Water Repair | £120–£450 | Which part has failed and whether it is in stock |
| Leaking Radiator Repair | £90–£350 | Valve, joint or panel leak, and floor access |
| Radiator Valve Replacement | £100–£400 | Number of valves, draining or freezing, and balancing |
| Thermostatic Radiator Valves | £150–£650 | Number of radiators, standard or smart heads, bypass work |
| Immersion Heater Replacement | £150–£400 | Thermostat or element, vented or unvented cylinder |
| Single standard radiator valve replaced | £100–£160 | Valve pattern, pipe access and how the water is isolated |
| Diverter valve repair or replacement on a combi | £180–£450 | Boiler make and part availability |
| Like-for-like combi swap in the same position | £2,500–£4,000 | Boiler brand, warranty length and flush type |
For comparison, see Checkatrade’s published guides to new boiler costs and boiler repair costs. Our six service ranges are starting budgets; a complex repair or conversion can exceed them.
When a job costs more than the guide
Moving a boiler to another room, fitting it in a loft, running a new flue through a different wall or upgrading the whole gas pipe back to the meter can push a combi quote well past £4,000. A main control board on some boilers can take a hot water repair beyond £450. Heavily sludged systems may need a power flush before any valve or radiator work will last.
The number of radiators and bathrooms affects the scope. System type, pipe sizes, access, water condition and location also change the price. Urgent attendance, premium brands and longer warranties add to the price too.
Useful details for each job
- Combi replacement: current boiler make and model, its location, number of bathrooms and whether there is a cylinder.
- Hot water faults: combi or cylinder, any fault code, and whether the boiler fires when a hot tap opens.
- Leaking radiators: which radiator, which end, and whether the water comes from the valve, the joint or the panel.
- Radiator valves: how many, what is wrong with each, and where the pipe enters the valve.
- TRVs: number of radiators, which room has the wall thermostat, and whether you want smart heads.
- Immersion heaters: vented or unvented cylinder, top or side entry, and what happens when it is switched on.
Agree what the quote covers
Ask for parts by make and model. Confirm draining, refilling, inhibitor, bleeding and balancing on any job that opens the heating system. For a new boiler, check the flush type, filter, controls, flue kit and warranty registration are all listed.
If the engineer finds another fault during the work, agree that they will explain it and get your approval before spending more. Read the guarantee terms. Many boiler warranties depend on an annual service. Missing it can affect the cover.
Check the engineer is qualified
We ask engineers who join for their insurance details and references, but you should still check their current cover and qualifications before booking. Gas boiler work must be done by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Immersion work needs electrical competence, and the immersion heater advice from Electrical Safety First explains why the thermostat and safety cut-out matter.
Each engineer runs an independent business, and the contract and payment are between the two of you. We cannot send anyone in an emergency. If you smell gas in Great Britain, call 0800 111 999. In Northern Ireland call 0800 002 001; for LPG contact your supplier.
Frequently asked questions
Will I get exactly four quotes?
No. Your enquiry can be matched with up to four heating engineers, but replies depend on the work, the postcode and who is available. You do not have to accept any quote.
Do engineers charge to visit?
Some do. The matching costs nothing, but an engineer may charge for a call-out or diagnosis. Ask before the visit, and ask whether the fee comes off the repair price if you go ahead.
Should I repair my boiler or replace it?
Ask the engineer for a repair price and their honest view of the boiler’s age and condition. If the repair costs a large share of a new boiler and parts are getting scarce, a quote for a replacement is worth having alongside it.
What paperwork should I keep?
Keep the written quote, the invoice and any certificates. For a new gas boiler, keep the Benchmark checklist and warranty registration, plus the Building Regulations compliance certificate in England and Wales or the completion documents applicable elsewhere in the UK.
